What is Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine date back over 2,500 years. Acupuncture involves placing sterile needles in acupuncture points which are located on energy pathways (meridians) that travel all over the body. Correct flow in these channels is what allows for health within the body. Acupuncture helps to facilitate correct flow in these channels therefore helping to create a state of health.

Chinese Herbal Medicine, as well as a healthy balanced diet, provides the raw materials necessary for the body to function. It is the acupuncture, as well as some herbs and foods, which make sure the energy is flowing correctly throughout the body and meridians.

There are numerous scientific studies which support the effects of acupuncture. Although the exact scientific basis is still unknown, recent theories seem to suggest involvement of complicated neurochemical effects in the brain, nerve to spinal cord impulse modulation, and microscopic connective tissue changes.

What risks and side effects are of concern?

Like other strategies used in treating health conditions, acupuncture may have some side effects. Medications have side effects and allergic reactions, surgeries have risk of infection and complications. For needle puncture the most common side effects are minor bleeding, small bruises, and some dizziness. It is important to eat something before getting a treatment. For Chinese Herbal Medicine, the most common side effect is gastrointestinal upset; this can be easily fixed by modifying the herbal formula.

You can minimize the possible side effects by choosing a licensed acupuncturist. Most countries either have government licensing in place or have professional organizations with very strict rules and regulations.

What Can Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine Treat?

These modalities can treat a wide array of conditions, including but not limited to:

Musculoskeletal problems: acute and chronic pain, fibromyalgia

Gynecological concerns: Impotence, infertility, PMS, menstrual disorders/irregularity, fertility issues, menopause

Upper Respiratory System: coughs, cold/flu, allergies, asthma, etc.

Gastrointestinal: including irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, loose stools and diarrhea, food allergies, ulcers, colitis

Cardiovascular: hypertension, hypotension, poor circulation

Neurological/hormonal: diabetes, paralysis, hypo/hyperthyroidism, tinnitus, and neuralgia

Miscellaneous: immune system strengthening for a variety of conditions, smoking cessation, drug addiction, weight problems, poor appetite, fatigue, insomnia

What is Acutonics?

Acutonics is a system of medicine that utilizes vibration sound healing. It uses tuning forks, singing bowls, rattles, and drums.  It allows treatments to be taken to a deeper level and can be used as a modality in of itself. It helps to connect the mind, body, and spirit without the use of needles. The tuning forks are calibrated to vibrations found in nature. I work with tuning forks that hold the vibration of the full moon, sun, earth, new moon, zodiac cycle, individual planets: mercury, venus, mars, jupiter, saturn, uranus, neptune, pluto, chiron, nibiru, sedna, and asteroids: ceres, juno, athena, and vesta. They can be placed on acupuncture points or held above the body over the meridians and chakras. The planets have traditional correspondences with organs and meridians. I work with three octaves of tuning forks that connect to the emotional realm, physical realm, and spirit realm. The tuning forks are a powerful way to connect to oneself, nature, and the rhythms of the universe.

What is Craniosacral?

Craniosacral involves the placing of hands on the client to access the craniosacral rhythm. The craniosacral system is important in the circulation and reabsoprtion of cerebrospinal fluid, which maintains the environment where the brain and nervous system develop, live, and function. The practitioner gently works with the spine, skull, cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia helping to release restrictions allowing energy to flow throughout the body. The recipient often feels sensations of “releasing” including heat releasing and pulsating and generally feels very relaxed throughout the process. Sometimes emotions or memories will surface and it is encouraged to flow with them.
